I’ve had Only Pieces by Edd Tello on my book case for months and finally got around to it today. It is such a sublime read.
Edgar Jimenez wants to be proud of who he is, but telling his dad isn’t going to be easy.
And when he starts to get close to a football jock from school, things can only get more complicated.
Honestly, fourteen-year-old me could have used this book back when I was outed in school and shunned by so-called friends (and family). This one hit very close to home.
But you know what? We are “only pieces”. All of us.
Tello’s novel in verse is so beautiful that Edgar may well be in my dreams tonight. ♥️
A book for every queer’s bookshelf.
